Liam Bjørnskau Wyke really enjoys his work an associate within our ESG, compliance and crisis management team. “One of the biggest challenges in my field is that the cases often concern areas of law I was not familiar with as a student.”

Reading time 2 minutes

Since autumn 2024, Liam Bjørnskau Wyke has been working as a trainee solicitor in our ESG, compliance and crisis management team.

This year, he has the pleasure of representing Wikborg Rein at the Working Life Days in Oslo, where he answers students’ questions about our trainee schemes and what everyday life is like as an Associate in a big law firm.

Concrete issues

– The working day is much more practically oriented than university – I often work on real cases for clients, dealing with specific legal issues that need to be resolved. There is also greater variety in the tasks, ranging from research and drafting to meetings with clients and colleagues.

Unlike student life, where you often work independently and at your own pace, here you are part of a team, and cases typically come with deadlines driven by clients’ needs, Liam explains.

Follows global developments

– Working with ESG, compliance and crisis management is great fun – it’s an exciting field where tasks often arise from what is happening in the world. I wasn’t very familiar with the field during my studies, but the more I read about it, the more interesting it seemed. No two days are the same, he explains.

– One of the biggest challenges as a trainee in this field is that it often involves areas of law I wasn’t familiar with during my studies and that are evolving rapidly. However, it has been very educational to work alongside all my talented colleagues here at Wikborg Rein, says Wyke.

One of his highlights as a trainee was working on a major arbitration case throughout several months in 2025, which concluded the week before he went on summer holiday.

– Going into the summer holiday with that case wrapped up was extremely satisfying – it gave me a real sense of having contributed to something important and being able to switch off completely afterwards, he emphasises.

Liam recommends undertaking a traineeship to get to know Wikborg Rein from the inside.

Cook and football fan

Outside work, Liam enjoys painting, cooking, and following his favourite football team.

– These are great ways to unwind. I also enjoy playing and watching football. So far, it’s been a slightly underwhelming season for Liverpool, but I’m hoping for a strong finish – especially in the Champions League!
