Immunity may shield a foreign state’s assets from enforcement in Norway, but not unconditionally. If the foreign state is engaged in commercial activities in Norway, it will be treated as its commercial peers, and immunity will not shield the assets involved in the commercial activity from attachment.

Marie co-heads Wikborg Rein's dispute resolution practice and specialises in commercial arbitration and cross-border disputes. 

Marie has extensive experience with litigation before the ordinary courts, as well as ad hoc and institutional arbitration (ICC, SCC, OCC, DIA, FAI, and SAC), acting as both counsel and arbitrator. In 2021, she was admitted to the Supreme Court of Norway.

Marie's work has covered a wide range of industries and issues, but her practice focuses particularly on shipping, energy and natural resource disputes. She also advises on private international law, and has litigated several landmark cases on jurisdiction and choice of law before Norwegian courts, including the Supreme Court. 

Marie holds a PhD in private international law and has several publications within this field of law, as well as within arbitration. In addition to her work at Wikborg Rein, she teaches at the University of Oslo. She is also a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. 

For the past five years, Marie has been ranked as one of the up-and coming dispute resolution lawyers in Norway in Finansavisen's/Kapital's annual survey, and she topped the ranking in 2022, 2024 and 2025. She is also ranked in Chambers, Legal500 and Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal).
